Corn mazes sprouting

MAYFIELD CORN MAZE

* Address: 257 Highway 307, Athens, Tenn.

* Directions: Take I-75 to Exit 52. Go east on Highway 305 toward Athens 3.2 miles, then turn left on Tellico Avenue (County Road 378). Turn left at the stop sign onto Highway 307 (old Athens Madisonville Road). Farm is 3/4 mile on the left.

* Hours: 4-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, 1-7 p.m. Sunday, by appointment Monday-Friday (before 4 p.m.).

* Admission: $8 ages 3 and up, $6 groups of 20 or more.

* Highlights: Milking parlor, pig races, tractor tire mountain, sand box, corn box, hay bale mountain, educational silos, hay wagon ride, tractor trikes and animal barn. Additional charge for punkin chunkin slingshot, corncob cannon, pedal cars and cow train.

* Entertainment: Tomato fight for food banks, Sept. 27; bluegrass bands, Oct. 10; antique truck and tractor show, Oct. 23-24; trick-or-treating, Oct. 31.

AUTUMN ACRES

* Address: 1096 Bailer Road, Crossville, Tenn.

* Directions: From Crossville, take 1-40 West to the Plateau Road exit, No. 311. Turn north onto Plateau, then take an immediate left onto Baier Road and follow to farm.

* Hours: 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 1-6 p.m. Sundays, by appointment Monday-Thursday.

* Admission: $8 ages 3 and older; discounts for groups of 20 or more.

* Highlights: Hayride around the farm, one free pumpkin for kids 3-12 (daytime visitors only), petting zoo, picnic pavilion, playground, straw crawl and corn box, fire pit. Additional charge for mega jump pillow ($3), corn cannon ($2), pumpkin slingshot ($2) and cow train ($1).

* Entertainment: Fish fries Fridays and Saturdays; other entertainment starts Sept. 19.
