Music
Classic rockers Kansas and the Edgar Winter Band lead off the month's music offerings. Their Chattanooga Rocks for the Veterans show at First Tennessee Pavilion on Nov. 7 will benefit the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council and other veterans outreach programs.
Rowing regatta
The Head of the Hooch, the Southeast's largest rowing regatta, scheduled Nov. 7-8 at Ross's Landing, has grown to 8,600 rowers this year, an increase of 30 percent over last year. To add to the regatta's festival feel, Chattanooga Market vendors will be on-site, and hot-air balloon rides will be offered on the riverfront.
Majestic opening
Carmike will open its new Majestic 12 cinema on Broad Street on Nov. 6, just a block south of the theater it replaces, the Bijou 7. The facility is the nation's first green theater, with solar energy panels and energy-efficient lighting. Serious moviegoers will like the VIP screening room, complete with leather reclining seats, where a wait staff will serve gourmet fare and beer. Read more about a sold-out sneak peek on Page ??
Christmas kickoff, Part 1
Four local tourist attractions will give area residents their first dose of Christmas cheer Nov. 20. Starting that weekend are the Enchanted Garden of Lights at Rock City, Deck the Falls at Ruby Falls, Tropical Holiday Adventure at the Tennessee Aquarium and North Pole Limited train rides at Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. The train rides are offered through Dec. 22, the others through early January.
Christmas kickoff, Part 2
The official kickoff of the holiday season downtown happens at Grand Illumination and Christmas on the River on Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving. A lighted boat parade will illuminate the waters at Ross's Landing, and a singing, dancing Santa will signal the illumination of 130 downtown buildings. A fireworks finale brings the evening to a close.
