Artists and crafters will gather their works for display in at least eight locations this weekend in Mentone, Ala.

The occasion is the Mentone Area Arts Council's Tour of Artist Studios and Mentone Homes, falling during the height of leaf season atop Lookout Mountain.

Among the creations on view will be baskets, bronze sculpture, pottery, hand-crafted furniture, paintings, forged iron, iron silhouette furnishings, jewelry, mosaics and stained glass.

A silent auction, new this year, will feature special works donated by artists and patrons of the arts council.

"Not only will you find samples of the arts and crafts of the participating artists but also items of inestimable value such as a weekend at a Mentone cabin, a canoe trip down the Little River, a morning deer hunt, a four-course gourmet dinner for four and an hourlong massage by a licensed therapist," event organizers said in a news release.

Auction items and bid sheets will be available at tour headquarters, the Mentone Fire Station, 5901 Highway 117 downtown.

Maps to the tour stops will be available at the fire station and in Mentone businesses.

Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, with bidding in the silent auction lasting till 4 p.m. Sunday (all times are Central).

Admission is free, but registration at the fire station is required.
