FAMILY FUN

* Boo in the Zoo: Family-friendly celebration at Chattanooga Zoo, 1254 E. Third St., includes costume contests, candy, games and crafts. Hours: 5:30-8:30 p.m. today, Saturday and Oct. 30-31. * Fantasy Maze: Eighth annual event, sponsored by Hamilton County Parks and Recreation at the Tennessee Riverpark, 4301 Amnicola Highway, gathers 40 nonthreatening cartoon heroes and classic characters within a 1,500-bale straw maze to pass out candy. Children should wear costumes and bring treat bags. Adults will want to bring cameras. $3 per child (adults and children under 2 are free). Additional $1 fees for inflatable games. 842-6748.

* Freaky Fake-Outs: Tonight's Fourth Friday Family Fun Night at the Creative Discovery Museum's Science Theater at Northgate Mall in Hixson will have a Halloween theme. From 6:30 to 8:30, kids can make edible and inedible fakes to freak out their friends. $9 per child over age 4, $7 for CDM members. 875-8522.

* Spooky Days activities at Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St., feature storyteller Vincent Phipps on Saturday and Jim Pfitzer on Oct. 31. Kids can sample s'mores and warm cider as well as watch pumpkin carving demonstrations from 1 to 4 p.m. both days. Storytelling sessions at 3 p.m. 756-2738.

* Storytelling: Sale Creek Lions Club presents its annual Halloween celebration Saturday, starting with hayrides at 6 p.m., followed by stories around a bonfire at 7:30. Bring your own seating, or relax on a hay bale. Members of the Cleveland Storytelling Guild and other local tellers will spin yarns for children and adults, including ghost stories. Admission and hot dogs are free; soft drinks, hot chocolate and apple cider cost $1. The clubhouse is on Coppinger Road behind Sale Creek Middle/High School. 332-2921.

COSTUME PARTIES

* Aqua-Scarium: Reservations are due by Tuesday for this Halloween party at the Tennessee Aquarium, 1 Broad St., 6:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Costumed guests mingle with the wild creatures of the aquarium and mascots sporting their own costumes for the occasion. * Halloween at the Hunter: Reservations are due by Wednesday for A Magnificent Masquerade 9 p.m.-midnight Oct. 31 at the Hunter Museum of American Art, 10 Bluff View. * Scared Pink: Annual event raises money for Pennies for Vicki, a nonprofit founded in memory of Vicki Conner, who died of breast cancer in 2001. * Stage Fright: Chattanooga Theatre Centre's annual Halloween bash, starting at 8 p.m. Oct. 31, awards prizes of $200, $75 and $25 for best costumes. You must be 18 to enter and 21 or older for alcoholic beverages. Food will be served, and a cash bar will have no potions or tonics over $5. Tickets are $5 in advance, $10 at the door. GHOST TOURS

* Find out the most haunted places downtown on Chattanooga Ghost Tours, scheduled 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through mid-November and other times by appointment. * Dalton Ghost Tours offers 90-minute walking tours each Friday and Saturday through November, starting at 7 and 9 p.m. Storyteller Connie Scott and actors journey into Dalton, Ga.'s haunted past, starting on the wooden deck across from the Wink Theatre on West Crawford St. $10 adults, $6 children. 706-980-4934.

* Haunted History Tours of the Berry College campus in Rome, Ga., begin at 6 p.m. Saturday and Oct. 31 at the Martha Berry Museum. Tours highlight the superstitious traditions of the Southern Highlanders, who inhabited the area in the latter part of the 19th century, and ghost stores told by students and faculty. $5.
