Hops and Opera, a pairing of artisanal beer with some of Chattanooga's leading operatic voices, re-emerges tonight.
The laid-back evening features arias by Leher, Bizet, Puccini, Verdi, Mozart and others. Their stories of betrayal, infidelity, murder and seduction should appeal to Chattanoogans of all musical inclinations, according to a news release from organizers.
"The success of the first Hops and Opera, held in May 2009, attests to a bold fact: There's an audience for timeless opera," said Harv Wileman, who will emcee along with Bob Bernhardt.
Vocalists are soprano Desire Soteres, mezzo-soprano Andrea Dismukes, tenor Michael Mays and baritone Ron Ulen, with piano accompaniment from Jenny Parker.
Big River Grille and Brewing Works will provide the brews, and Appalachian Dog Co. will serve up hot dogs.
The event is presented by Chattanooga Theatre Centre, in partnership with Chattanooga Symphony and Opera and CreateHere. Summitt Pianos will place a piano in the main lobby of the Theatre Centre for the event.
"It's a rare treat to experience the force of these voices in a casual setting, with local bites and brew," Wileman said. "Leave your monocles and pearls at home, and come for the sheer enjoyment of local talent."
