Staff Photo by Gillian Bolsover Almost 80,000 people fill Bonnaroo's 700 acre grounds for the duration of the four-day festival.

MANCHESTER, Tenn. -- Parrotheads at Bonnaroo will get a surprise appearance by Jimmy Buffett at noon today, according to Ken Weinstein with Big Hassle Media.

During a news conference Friday, Mr. Weinstein said the laid-back Alabamian was a confirmed last-minute addition. He will join Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Elvis Costello, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails and The Mars Volta, among other performers on today's lineup.

On Friday, Phish was the big draw, though the lineup also included the Beastie Boys, David Byrne and Public Enemy.

Mr. Weinstein said that the festival had sold just a few less than the maximum 80,000 tickets.

Jeff Brown and Jason Heath, both in their 30s and from Louisville, Ky., are here to see Springsteen and Phish, who will also close out the festival Sunday night. Mr. Brown is attending his sixth Bonnaroo and Mr. Heath is attending his fourth. Both said they skipped last year because of the lineup.

"Kanye West," Mr. Brown said. "When they booked him, I vowed I'd never attend another one. Then I saw they had Springsteen and Phish. I haven't seen Phish in five years, but this will be my 33rd and 34th time."

Mr. Brown said he has done Bonnaroo by RV, tent camping and, this year, in a hotel room.

"They are all fun, but in a hotel, there (are) no rain or lightning issues," he said.

Comedian Janeane Garofalo is performing at the comedy tent during the festival. She said part of the fun is roaming from stage to stage discovering new music.

"You can wander with no agenda and you will see something good," she said.
