Pizza is not normally known for its health benefits. I mean, with thick, toppings — lots of meat and cheese — plus the crust, its calorie count is out of sight. So it came as a surprise to get an e-mail from Papa John’s about and interview the pizza chain’s founder, John Schnatter, had with the BBC. Schnatter was there by invitation to participate in programming concerning the British government’s anti-obesity drive.
“Pizza's actually healthy for you if you don't eat too much of it," Schnatter said, adding, "You can't eat five or six slices but if you eat one or two slices it's very nutritious.”
I’ll have to agree with one caveat: Make it a whole wheat crust with little cheese and many vegetables. Then and only then would I ever consider two slices of pizza as healthy.
Interesting footnote: Sales of pizza in the United Kingdom jumped 60 percent after the recent record snowfalls when workers were forced to stay home. Guess come springtime we’ll see some hefty Brits in the motherland.
