Volunteers along the Tennessee River

Festival organizers say volunteers are what make the festival a success and help hold admission prices down.

Volunteers say the festival offers a chance to contribute to their community.

“It’s hard work but I enjoy it,” seven-year volunteer Jennifer Brumlow said. “I like being part of something that makes so many people happy.”

A 16-year veteran volunteer, Billie Lange said she enjoys being involved, “to be part of the action” and meeting people from throughout the community.

“We just want everyone to have a good time,” said Billieray Blaha, who has volunteered for three years with Friends of the Festival.

The volunteers provide a myriad of services over the course of the event, all for an admission pin, a T-shirt and — when they are not working — one other perk.

“You get some of the best seats in the house,” Ms. Brumlow said.
