Riverbendgoers ready to vote and other notes

It’s an election year.

The voter registration booth located near the Bud Light Stage has seen modest but steady activity throughout the nine-day Riverbend Festival, according to registration volunteer Elizabeth Crews.

“We’ve had about 30 a night, every night,” she said. “A few are for address changes, but most are first timers.”

n Cops will be cops, kids will be kids.

“As far as arrests, we’ve made a lot less than usual for Riverbend,” said Lt. Max Templeton of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. “It seems like people are minding their manners this year. (But) a good portion has been for underage drinking, that and bickering over seats.”

n Float your boat at Riverbend.

“No doubt, boating is the best way to go to Riverbend,” said Lamar White, as he filled his 35-foot cruiser’s water tank — “I want to be able to take a shower tonight” — at the Bluff Docks, located at the Walnut Street Bridge.

“We don’t just come to boat, we come to Riverbend,” he said, pointing to about six other boats based at Island Cove Marina near Harrison. “I’ve been coming to Riverbend since it started — I’ve been to them all — and always on the water.”

n Riverfront and Riverbend are a pleasant surprise.

“It’s an amazing experience,” said Vicki Wing, a former Chattanoogan now living in Toronto who returned to visit family — and Riverbend — this week.

“I love how Chattanooga is using this beautiful riverfront,” she said. “It shows how the city has grown.”
