The music begins in earnest on Fridays at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and today was no different. By 3 p.m., each of the 11 stages were fully engaged and Centeroo was jammed with people.

The Drive-By Truckers got the day started right with a great set on the Which Stage in front of a massive crowd.

Later in the day, Umphries Magee played the same stage and while I think the band is talented, it sounded like a nearly two-hour version of the same song to me.

Dark Star Orchestra, playing on the smaller Sonic Stage was awesome, opened the show with a slow, trippy version of “Stir It Up.”

The Fiery Furnaces were also really good. Tegan and Sara were not my cup of tea, herbal or otherwise.

At 5, The Raconteurs started off a lineup on the main What Stage that included Chris Rock and Metallica. Willie Nelson and My Morning Jacket were on the Which Stage next door.

It’s Red Bull time.
